2018 Junior Pan Pac team member Lola Mull verbally committed to Northwestern, she announced via social media on Tuesday. Mull will be a freshman in the fall of 2020.

Mull is one of the top distance swimmers in the class of 2020 as she finished 20th in the 1500 at the US Nationals this past summer and 27th in the 400 free.

Mull qualified for the Junior Pan Pacs for Team USA as she finished fourth in the 1500, fifth in the 800, 10th in the 400 free in Fiji. Mull was also the East Junior National Champion in the 1650 this past December as she also finished fourth in the 500 free final at the meet in Greensboro.

Mull swims for Mid-Michigan Aquatics and is currently a junior. Mull will be a huge boost to the Northwestern team that has school records of 4:40.23 and 15:55.01 in Mull’s best events that are well within her reach.

Northwestern has not had an individual Big Ten Champion on the women’s side since 2008 when Andrea Hupman won the 100 and 200 free. The Wildcats have been seventh the last two season in the Big Ten Conference. The Wildcats’ highest Big Ten finish is second as they achieved that four times in 1990 and 1992-1994. Northwestern has not been as high as fifth since 2008, however.

Mull will be following in the footsteps of distance swimmer Valerie Gruest, who holds the 500 and 1650 school records for Northwestern. Gruest is currently a junior and will be graduated by the time Mull will be a freshman. Mull will be on campus though when breaststroke stud Calypso Sheridan is in her senior year.

Mull’s best times (SCY):

  • 200 Free: 1:49.33
  • 500 Free: 4:43.35
