Junior Pan Pac team member Dare Rose of Scarlet Aquatics in New Jersey sent his verbal commitment to Cal on Thursday via social media. Rose is currently in his junior year and will be joining the team in Berkeley in the fall of 2020.

Rose had a breakthrough in 2018 as he qualified for the Junior Pan Pacs team this past summer, where he swam the third leg on the gold medal winning 4×200 free relay team. Rose’s best event is the 200 butterfly as he was 18th at US Nationals this past summer. He swam a 1:58.97 in the heats for his best time. Rose was the third fastest American at the Junior Pan Pacs in the 200 fly as he won the B-Final in that event.

Rose swam five total events at US Nationals this summer as he did the 100, 200 and 400 free, and the 100 and 200 fly. Rose made it back to finals in every event he swam at Nationals except for the 100 free.

Rose turned around at the Junior Pan Pacs in Fiji a few weeks later and lowered his best times in the 200 and 100 free. He split a 1:49.04 on the Americans’s 4×200 free relay.

Rose will be joining a Cal team in the fall of 2020 where the team will be led by seniors Daniel CarrSean GrieshopRyan Hoffer and Bryce Mefford, and Multi-time Swimming World high school swimmer of the year Reece Whitley will be in his junior year. The Golden Bears are currently ranked first in the latest CSCAA Division I poll and have finished in the top two at NCAAs every year since 2010.

Dare Rose is a significantly better long course swimmer based off his best times. The majority of his best times came from his sophomore year so he has room to improve in those events. His 1:36 200 free will not be good enough for an A relay spot at NCAAs just yet but he will have another year to develop under coach Mohamed Abdelaal.

Cal’s incoming freshman class for the fall of 2019 includes Calvin DavidJason LouserColby Mefford and Michael Petrides. Rose will be joining the next year’s class which already includes Forrest Frazier.
