Josh McDonald attacked his 1500 freestyle timed final swim Thursday at the 2015 Irish Open, setting a new lifetime best with a 15:50.95 to place third overall. Though he missed the U.S. Olympic Trials qualifying time by one second, he was excited about what’s ahead for the remainder of the meet.

In this video interview, McDonald talked about the 1500 free, in which he was racing the clock from the start. He also discusses the training he’ll do when he returns home to get faster in the mile, and why he’s looking forward to the 400 freestyle later in the meet.
