INCHEON, South Korea, September 29.  Singapore swimming star Joseph Schooling, along with two other swimmers, is currently being investigated by Team Singapore for leaving the Asian Games Athletes’ Village without permission and drinking before returning to the village early the next morning according to a report by Asia TODAY.

The article reports that Schooling, Roanne Ho and Teo Zhen Ren were “escorted to their apartments by village security upon their return” but that “the swimmers did not appear drunk when they returned.”

Leaving without permission, however, could be trouble enough for the trio.

“It has been brought to our attention that three athletes returned to the Athletes’ Village in the early hours on Sep 27,” Team Singapore’s chef-de-mission Jessie Phua said in a statement. “We will investigate further after the Games. We have reminded all remaining athletes and officials to be responsible for their actions and to keep the team managers updated of their movements. We are focused on giving our best to support the athletes who are still competing and wish them the very best for the competition.”

Singapore’s squad had a strong outing at the Asian Games, with Schooling winning his nation’s first gold medal in 32 years by a male swimmer in the 100 fly with a 51.76.  He also won a silver and bronze during the meet as well.

This isn’t the only allegation of a swimmer behaving badly at the meet as Naoya Tomita has confessed to stealing a photographer’s camera from the meet.

Swimming World has reached out to Schooling, but a request for comment has not been immediately returned.
