Jose Finkel Trophy: Nicholas Dos Santos Downs South American Record

FLORIANOPOLIS, Brazil, September 4. NICHOLAS Dos Santos led the way on the third day of long course meter swimming at the Jose Finkel Trophy. Dos Santos finished the night with a South American record in the men's 50 fly.

Dos Santos won the sprint fly competition with a time of 22.87. The performance wiped out his South American record of 23.00 set twice at the 2009 World Championships in Rome. Glauber Silva finished second in 23.26 with Guilherme Santos taking third in 23.55.

Thiago Pereira posted a Brazilian record in the men's 200 back with a 1:58.36. That readout nipped his previous record of 1:58.42 set in July 2007. Lucas Salatta touched just behind with a second-place 1:58.69. Fernando Santos picked up third in 2:00.15.

Joanna Maranhao opened the night with a meet-record time of 4:13.31 in the women's 400 free. Monique Ferreira placed second in 4:15.11, while Betina Lorscheitter earned third in 4:17.60.

Matheus Ribeiro followed with a 3:53.00 to win the men's 400 free. Luiz Rogerio Arapiraca took second in 3:54.21, while Andre Schultz claimed third in 3:54.39.

Fernanda Alvarenga topped the women's 200 back in a meet-record 2:12.64. Rebeca Bretanha finished a distant second in 2:17.37, while Thalandra Borge wound up third in 2:18.08.

Daynara Ferreira won the women's 50 fly in 26.22. Daniele Jesus took second in 26.49, while Nathalia Dos Santos earned third in 26.87.

In relay action, Ana Carolina Santos, Eloisa Drapzinski, Monique Ferreira and Tatiana Barbosa set a meet record in the women's 800 free relay with an 8:11.87. Rodrigo Castro, Victor Rodrigues, Pereira and Salatta followed in the men's 800 free relay with a meet-record time of 7:20.20.
