Jose Finkel Trophy: Cecilia Biagioli Sets Meet Record to Close Competition

BELO HORIZONTE, Brazil, September 4. THE Jose Finkel Trophy competition came to a close with a meet record taking a tumble during the last finals session.

Cecilia Biagioli downed the meet record in the women's 1500 free with a 16:46.68. That performance smashed the previous mark of 16:58.17 set by Poliana Okimoto in 2007. Okimoto took second today in 17:00.56, while Ana Da Cunha finished third in 17:11.13. Juan Pereyra captured the men's 800 free in 8:05.75. Lucas Kanieski placed second in 8:09.58, while Marcos Oliveira finished third in 8:21.34.

Cesar Cielo, the top-ranked swimmer in the world in the men's 50 fly with a 22.98 from June, cruised to victory in the event with a 23.48. Glauber Silva picked up second in 23.65, while Nicholas Dos Santos finished third in 23.68. Inge Dekker, who stands second in the world rankings with a 25.57 from March, captured the women's 50 fly title in 26.56. Daynara De Paula earned second in 27.01, while Daniele Jesus placed third in 27.13.

Fabiola Molina kicked off the final session of swimming with a winning time of 1:01.33 in the women's 100 back. Natalia Diniz touched second in 1:03.12, while Fernanda Alvarenga took third in 1:03.49. Gabriel Mangabeira followed that with a 55.48 to win the men's 100 back. Fernando Pires placed second in 5.75, while Leonardo Guedes picked up third in 56.06.

In relay action, Fabiola Molina, Renata Sander, Dandara Antonio and Kim Vandenberg won the women's 400 medley relay in 4:11.97, while Leonardo De Deus, Henrique Barbosa, Cesar Cielo and Nicholas Dos Santos picked up the men's 400 medley relay in 3:39.96.
