Johns Hopkins Receives Commitment from Breaststroker Spencer Ryan
NEW COMMIT: Spencer Ryan of Virginia Beach, Va. has declared his commitment to Johns Hopkins University beginning this fall.
Ryan swims year-round with Tide Swimming and owns the Winter Juniors standard in the 100 breast. He most recently competed at the Kecoughtan Invite where he finished sixth in the 50 free and 13th in the 100 fly. He recorded a lifetime best at Richmond Futures this past summer after competing in three events at Virginia LCM Seniors. Also competing for Norfolk Academy, Ryan finished third in the 100 breast and fourth in the 50 free at the VISAA Championships after winning the former event at the 4A North Region meet during his junior season.
He told Swimming World:
“I will be attending Johns Hopkins University next year and would like to send a huge thank you to my parents, coaches, and teammates who have put in endless hours to help me get to where I am today.”
His best times include:
- 100 breast – 57.34
- 200 breast – 2:09.40
- 200 IM – 1:57.02
- 50 free – 21.26
- 100 free – 47.23
When he suits up for the Blue Jays as a member of the class of 2023, Ryan will join a breaststroke group led by Maxwell Chan as well as a sprint squad that includes Brandon Fabion and Collin Hughes.
