Joey Tepper Posts Two Top-10 Times, Three Wins in Tennessee Romp

Distance specialist Joey Tepper posted a pair of top-10 program times and won three events as Tennessee swept out Carson-Newman on Saturday afternoon.

The men’s team eased to a 136-106 victory. The women won, 144.5-104.5.

Tepper led the way. The sophomore dropped more than 30 seconds off his previous best to win the 1,650 freestyle in 15:00.33. That time ranks ninth in program history, as does his 1,000 free split (9:04.16). Tepper also won the 500 free in 4:24.18 and the 400 individual medley in 3:57.61.

Kayky Mota won the 100 butterfly and 200 fly as well as swimming a leg on the winning 200 medley relay. Joining him on that foursome was 100 breast winner Michael Houlie and Nolan Briggs, who swept the 50 and 100 free.

Jordan Crooks won the 200 free and was second to Mota in the 100 fly. Aleksey Tarasenko finished second in the 50 free and 200 free. Brett Champlin won the 200 breast and 200 IM.

The women’s onslaught was led by a tie for the victory in the 100 back between Josephine Fuller and Olivia Harper at 52.90. (The quickest Vol in the event was Elle Caldow, who went 52.60 in an exhibition swim.) Caldow won the 200 back in 1:55.79, with Fuller second and Harper third. Caldow also won the 200 free.

Ellen Walshe won the 200 fly and turned in the top time in the 500 free with an exhibition swim of 4:49.45. Trude Rothrock went 1:58.99 in the 200 IM and was second in the 200 fly. Tjasa Pintar won the 100 free after finishing second in the 200 free.

Summer Smith (400 IM), Kristen Stege (1,000 free), Alexia Yager (100 breast), Alex Gebel (200 breast) and Jasmine Rumley (50 free) also earned victories.
