Olympic gold medalist Jessica Hardy and husband Dominik Meichtry welcomed their first child this weekend according to a post on Hardy’s Twitter Account. Named Olivia Adele Meichtry, Hardy gave birth on March 24th, a day that she called “the hardest/most amazing day of my life” in a tweet featuring a photo of their new daughter.

Hardy and Meichtry announced they were expecting back in September with a post on Twitter. The couple has been married since 2013.

Hardy was a fixture on the U.S. National Team from 2005 to 2015 until she wrapped up her career in the summer of 2016, with her last race in the finals of the 100 breaststroke at the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials. Hardy owns a gold and bronze medal from the 2012 London Olympics after winning the 50 and 100 freestyle at the 2012 Olympic Trials. During her career she broke the world record in the 100 breast in 2005 and 2009 as well as the world record in the 50 breast in 2009, and was the American record holder in both long course events until Lilly King broke both last summer.

Hardy wrapped up her competitive swimming career last summer after making the final in the women’s 100 breast at Olympic Trials. She was a member of senior U.S. international teams from 2005 until 2015, and she broke world records in the 100 breast in both 2005 and 2009 and in the 50 breast in 2009. Meichtry and Hardy met when both were attending Cal, and he was also an Olympic swimmer for his native country of Switzerland.
