Jennah Haney is headed home.

The former Wisconsin swimmer has been named to the Badgers’ coaching staff, first-year head coach Yuri Suguiyama announced Monday.

“Jennah’s energy and enthusiasm are going to impact our program right away,” Suguiyama said. “She is a talented, passionate, hard-working coach and I’m thrilled to have her coming back to Madison.”

“It’s always been a dream of mine to return home to Wisconsin and coach for the Badgers,” Haney said.

“It was an easy decision after coming back to campus and meeting Yuri. The amount of energy he brings, just being around him for a short amount of time, you couldn’t help but be excited. It’s something I knew I wanted to be a part of.

“I look forward to doing anything I can to help him lead the program.”

Haney spent the past two seasons on staff at Akron, serving one year as a graduate assistant before being named assistant coach in 2017-18. In addition to her on-deck role, she served as the Zips’ recruiting coordinator.

A native of Milton, Wisconsin, Haney was a four-year letterwinner for the Badgers who competed in the breaststroke and individual medley. She earned Academic All-Big Ten honors three times and was named recipient of the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award as a freshman.

Haney graduated from UW in 2014 with a business degree in consumer affairs and went on to earn a master’s in education/sport science at Akron in 2017.

Prior to joining the staff at Akron, Haney spent a year as an assistant coach with T2 Aquatics in Naples, Florida. Her responsibilities included serving as lead coach for the program’s senior performance and senior one groups.

“One of the things that stands out about Jennah is that she brings a great perspective,” Suguiyama said. “Club swimming is the heartbeat of college swimming and Jennah’s recent experiences there, combined with her experience working with a championship-level program in Akron, will be invaluable.”

Haney’s coaching career began in Madison, where she spent a year as a coach with Badger Aquatic Club after finishing her time as a competitive swimmer.

She and fellow UW alum Kristy Brager are the newcomers named to Suguiyama’s first staff. They are joined by returning assistant coach Neil Caskey and diving coach Anton Slobounov.
