Jacob Bening, Brogan Davis Lead Central Cape Girardeau to Missouri Class 1 Boys Crown

Central Cape Girardeau won six events at Friday’s Missouri Boys Class 1 state championships to earn the state title. The team scored 301.5 points. Kearney also had multiple winning performances to score 250 points. Glendale was third with 208 points.

In the meet’s opening 200 medley relay Central Cape Girardeau was incredibly dominant. Jacob Bening (23.81), Sam Hahs (25.56), Brogan Davis (21.92), and Truman Vines (22.38) touched in 1:33.67. Parkway West’s Christopher FrederickCarter MurawskiAlec Zhou, and John Ransin (1:40.08) snagged silver while Alex BenduskiMichael RaskinBrandon Yan, and Kuyi Gao (1:41.02) finished third for Ladue Horton Watkins

Kearney’s Evan Holt raced to a 200 freestyle (1:40.70) and 500 freestyle (4:34.26) victory. His teammate Austin Wolfe (1:41.11) was on his tail in the 200 free. Rounding out the podium was Daniel Seabaugh (1:42.41), a sophomore from Central Cape Girardeau. Just behind Holt in the 500 free was Seabaugh (4:35.11). Glendale’s Chris Weiss finished third (4:38.62).

Holt and Wolfe’s teammate Grant Sloan was victorious in the 50 free with a 20.41. Nevanda’s Ben Hines (21.49) and Central Cape Girardeau’s Hyrum Dickson (21.52) raced to second and third. Sloan also topped the 100 breaststroke (56.95). Hahs (57.39) and Glendale’s Henry Feyh (59.11) followed.

Davis returned to the top of the podium, in dominant fashion again, with a 1:49.01 200 IM. AJ Huskey (1:55.57) of Battle and Robbie Hill (1:56.96) of Oak Park were second and third. Davis made it a double, smoking the field in the 100 fly, when he stopped the clock in 48.81. L-Rogersville’s Andrew Atwood was runner up in 52.64, just faster than Hill (52.77).

Central Cape Girardeau won another event as Bening was first to the wall in the 100 free. He finished in 46.29. Wolfe snagged a second silver in 46.56 while Hines (47.37) rounded out the podium. Bening went two for two in individual efforts, clocking a 51.52 in the 100 back. Park Hill’s Jackson Garrett (52.49) and Parkway’s Frederick (54.34) were second and third.

Kearney’s Sloan, Holt, Carter White and Wolfe put together a 1:26.85 to win the 200 freestyle relay. Dickson, Vines, Seabaugh, and Hahs combined for second (1:27.30) for Central Cape Girardeau.

Central Cape Girardeau was back on top in the final relay, putting together an impressive effort. Davis, Seabaugh, Dickson, and Bening swam a 3:07.71 for the victory.
