Italy Withdraws From Hosting Duties of 2014 World Short Course Championships

CATANIA, Italy, November 15. IN a release from the Italian Swimming Federation yesterday, Italy stated that it has withdrawn from its hosting duties for the 2014 World Short Course Championships. Italy was slated to host the event in Catania, but stated that the Sicilian Region has been unable to guarantee that it can meet all of its financial obligations to host the event.

Italy withdrawing from its hosting duties comes at a time when the country is in financial turmoil, which claimed Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi as Berlusconi was forced to resign during the weekend.

FINA has yet to make an official announcement of the change.
