Isidore Newman School Sweeps Louisiana 4A State Titles

Isidore Newman School swept the Louisiana Division 4 high school state championships for the third straight year on Thursday night. The team’s girls were led by their freshman. They scored 308 points to secure victory ahead of Ascension Episcopal School with 265 points. The boys were dominant with 417 points, ahead of Pope John Paul II and Esa which tied for second with 200 points each.

Girls

Ascension Episcopal dominated the 200 medley relay with Ashley GillSophie SierveldJillian Barczyk and Grace Sheets touching in 1:54.02.

Gill was runner up in the 50 free (25.03) behind Northlake Christian’s Sage Angeletti (24.93). The freshman Gill then won the 100 backstroke in 59.63, the only swimmer under a minute.

Sierveld, also a freshman, won the 100 free in 54.85, just .01 ahead of McGehee freshman Peyton McQueen (54.86). Sierveld was also runner up in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.75) behind Esa’s Isabella Buttaci (1:10.34).

Barczyk dominated the 200 freestyle with a 1:50.92, just off her own division record. She also cleared five minutes (4:57.58) in the 500 free.

Calvary Baptist’s Sarah Holt won the 200 IM (2:11.00) and 100 fly (57.71).

Caroline HorneMolly McDowellLiberty Haase and Holt topped the 200 freestyle relay in 1:50.27. Ascension’s Lily Dore, Sheets, Gill, and Barczyk raced to a 3:52.67 for 400 freestyle relay gold.

Boys

Isidore Newman was winning from the get-go. Pierce ThionvilleNathanial KramerConnor Page, and Melle Koper won the 200 medley relay in 1:43.83. Esa’s Lazar PappRyan RhoadesMichael de la Rose, and Dylan Fowler weren’t far behind in 1:45.03, well ahead of the rest of the field.

Ascension freshman Jack Aldridge edged Isidore freshman Thionville 1:47.14 to 1:47.59 in the 200 freestyle. Aldridge also won the 100 fly in 53.54. Thionville earned a gold medal with

Davis Legnon of Pope John Paul II won the 200 IM (2:01.37).

In 21.73 The Dunham School’s Miles Jantzi claimed 50 free gold and returned to win the 100 free as well (47.69).

Eas’a Fowler, de la Rose, Papp, and Rhoades improved on their runner up finish in the 200 medley relay to win the 200 freestyle relay in 1:34.64. de la Rosa won the 100 breaststroke in 1:03.01.

After swimming the fly leg on Isidore’s winning 200 medley relay Page topped the 100 backstroke in 54.97.

Page, James Nguyen, Thionville, and Melle Koper raced to a 3:27.42 to win the 400 freestyle relay by 17 seconds.
