Irish National Teamer Molly Mayne to Join Florida in the Fall

Irish national teamer Molly Mayne will enroll in the University of Florida in the fall of 2023, the school announced on Wednesday.

Mayne was born in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, but represents Ireland internationally. She swims for Hamilton Aquatics Dubai in the UAE. The IMer won bronze medals in the girls 100 and 200 breaststroke at the 2019 Summer European Youth Olympic Festival when she was 13. That year, she was named Swim Ireland’s Performance Pathway Athlete of the Year.

Mayne won four events in three strikes at the EC International Championships in Dubai in March, including the 50 butterfly and 200 IM. She finished in the top five in three events (the 100 breast, 200 breast and 100 fly) at the 2023 Irish Open in April, swimming for Templeogue College.

She has competed for Ireland at the European Junior Championships three times and twice at the European Short-Course Championships. She’s won four titles at the Middle East Open, from 2019-23. She finished sixth in the 200 breast at European Juniors last summer, and she was seventh in that event at the Toyota U.S. Open Championships in Greensboro in December.

Mayne is following in the footsteps of a number of recent versatile Irish stars who’ve called the SEC home: National record holders Mona McSharry and Ellen Walshe both swim at the University of Tennessee.
