Iona Defeats Siena, 183-109

NEW ROCHELLE, New York, November 9. IONA College women's swimming and diving opened its 2006-07 season with an impressive 183-109 win against Siena. The victory also marked the Gaels' first MAAC win of the year.

The Gaels were the first to the wall in every individual freestyle, breaststroke and butterfly event. Susi Brackett and Angela Kohlhoff combined to sweep the distance events, Brackett taking first in the 1000-yard free (11:10.13) and Kohlhoff in the 500-yard free (5:22.19). Freshman Elizabeth Shea Dix won the 200-yard free with a time of 1:59.42.

Second-year swimmer Amanda Cody, coming off a solid first season, touched first in the 50-yard free (24.73) and the 100-yard free (55.04). Amanda McCarthy took top honors in the 100 and 200-yard breaststrokes with respective times of 1:09.67 and 2:34.53, as well as the 200-yard individual medley with a 2:17.96 performance. Megan McNeely was the winner of the 100-yard backstroke (1:04.16) and Eryn Crane swam away with the 200-yard fly win (2:15.63).

After missing the entire last season due to injury, Chloe Koprucki was the top scorer in both the one and three-meter diving events, earning 199.65 and 165.25 respectively.

Coach Nick Cavataro stated he was "very pleased with the meet tonight, we had our opening relay disqualified because of a very aggressive take exchange with one of our swimmers, and really bounced back and didn't let it phase our girls."
