Industry News: Swimmers, Runners Join Together for Endurance Event Highlighting San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO, California, July 9. SWIMMERS, runners, and multi-sport athletes from around the world will join together on July 22, 2012 for the 3rd Annual Orca Alcatraz Challenge Aquathlon & Swim, produced by Tri-California Events.

The event offers three race options:
1. Aquathlon: 1.5-mile swim from Alcatraz to Crissy Field, followed by a 7-mile out and back run over the Golden Gate Bridge.
2. Aquathlon Relay Team: 2-Person Team
3. Swim Only: 1.5-mile swim from Alcatraz to Crissy Field

“The Alcatraz Challenge offers athletes a self-guided tour of San Francisco's infamous Alcatraz Island Federal Penitentiary, the Golden Gate Bridge, and a unique view of San Francisco's world renowned skyline,” says Terry Davis, CEO and founder of Tri-California.

Race morning begins by jumping off the California Hornblower, positioned right off-shore of Alcatraz Island. Once in the water, athletes will endure chilly water temperatures and moderate currents as they make the 1.5-mile journey to East Beach of Crissy Field. After removing wetsuits and transitioning to running shoes, athletes will enjoy a technical but beautiful out and back run on the Golden Gate Bridge, ultimately finishing back at Crissy Field.

Online Registration is available through Friday, July 20th. On-site registration will be available at Packet Pick-Up on Saturday, July 21st from 12PM to 7PM at the Sports Basement Presidio location, as well as on race morning at Crissy Field.

Athletes will jump promptly at 8AM. Coffee, bagels, fresh fruit and hot coffee will await them at the Finish Line Caf?. All participants will receive a custom Orca Alcatraz Challenge T-shirt and finisher medal.
