Industry News: FINIS Dedicates Exclusive Water Polo Apparel Line to USA Team Captain and Silver Medalist Tony Azevedo

LIVERMORE, California, August 28. FINIS announced the release of an entire line of elite water polo apparel and equipment in honor of the accomplishments of their star athlete, U.S. Olympian Tony Azevedo. Although falling just shy of that esteemed gold medal podium, Azevedo's stellar performances over the past 15 days guided his U.S.A. water polo team to their best Olympic finish since the Seoul Olympics back in 1988.

It is no question that Tony Azevedo's feats in Beijing were well worthy of the dedication from FINIS. Not only did Azevedo lead his team to a silver medal, putting up an incredible 4 goals in the team's final match against Hungary, but the FINIS sponsored athlete also acted as team captain throughout the Games entirety. John Mix, President of FINIS, said that Azevedo's success in Beijing solidified Tony's place in history as one of the most revolutionary athletes of his generation. Mix stated, "Tony is such an amazing talent. He truly is one of the finest water polo players today, and really, in history." Mix explained that the Azevedo line was designed with Tony in mind and that they had some additional direction from Tony's renowned coach and father, Richardo Azevedo.

With the assistance of the Azevedo family, FINIS product development team was able to capture every aspect of Azevedo's persona in the 20 piece line. Mark Stephens, product development manager for FINIS, expressed that it was Tony's passion and focus in the water, and his extremely laid back demeanor out of the water, that acted as the primary inspirations in the creative process. "We wanted the Azevedo line to embody both of these aspects of Tony's persona. We made sure that all the products – whether it is hats, suits, or hoodies – were modern, edgy, and comfortable…and of course that they lived up to Tony's expectations," explained Stephens. FINIS hopes that Tony Azevedo's success will continue to grow the sport at all levels within the United States.
