TIBURON, California, August 12. FOUNDED in 1999, by Robert C. Placak, a Marin County native and Tiburon resident, The RCP Tiburon Mile Open Water Swim has quickly become known as the most competitive and prestigious open water swim event in the world. Hundreds of swimmers will once again converge upon the Town of Tiburon, California and battle the waters of The Raccoon Strait on Sunday, September 13, 2009, marking this event's 10th anniversary. In the past 9 years, the RCP Tiburon Mile has raised more than $900,000 for Hospice By The Bay and Special Olympics.

This premier international open water swim includes many U.S. and International Athletes including the 2008 winners Trent Grimsey, Australia and Germany's Britta Kamrau, Thomas Lurz, Germany, Russians Vladimir Dyatchin and Ekaterina Seliverstova, Olympian Chloe Sutton and Gold Medalist Ous Mellouli, California American record holder Dana Vollmer, World Champion and Triathlete John Flanagan and Olympic hopeful Eva Fabian. We look forward to up to 3,000 spectators attending from early in the morning and supporting Tiburon Businesses.

This event is great fun for all swimming enthusiasts. The Mayor's Cup which resides in Tiburon City Hall will be awarded to the fastest Tiburon resident – local businessman and swimmer Bill Price's record number of wins of this prize will be challenged by any and all participating residents.

Swimmers will be treated to a post-race brunch, live entertainment, t-shirts, goodie bags and more! Don't miss out on this one of a kind experience.
