Illinois State Women defeat Evansville (177.5-116.5)

NORMAL, Illinois, October26. ILLINOIS State swimmers and divers had several outstanding performances that led to victory over conference rival Evansville Friday night, with the Redbirds taking the 177.5-116.5 win over the Purple Aces. Freshmen Ashley Bachler, Christine Byron and Molly Gomberg, along with sophomores Lindsay Dinkelman, Caitlin Falconer and Alison Wippermann all had personal-best times in their respective events.

Head swimming and diving coach Steve Paska was pleased with the number of outstanding performances from his team.

"We had several outstanding performances (Friday)," said Paska, "They (the team members) have the intensity and focus and are willing to succeed. We took the first step to prepare ourselves for the next three weeks of competition. As a team, we are going to enjoy family weekend and come in Monday to prepare for the next two weeks.

"Kathleen Borkovec won the 100- and 200-yard freestyle events. She loves to race and to be challenged. She rose to the competition and showed her determination (Friday). Amy Schaefer also performed well. She received first place in the 100- and 200-yard butterfly and second in the 100-yard freestyle. She pushes herself to the limit, gives it her all every time and loves to race. It was evident (Friday) with her performances."
