Husky Invitational

STORRS, Connecticut, October 22. THE University of Vermont swimming and diving team took part in the Husky Invitational on Saturday afternoon hosted by the University of Connecticut. It was a non-scoring meet, as the Catamounts and Huskies were joined by Providence, Fordham and Maine.

Freshman Katie Adams earned Vermont's lone win on the day, taking first place in the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:56.96. Junior Kailey Gardner earned a pair of second place finishes in the 500 free (5:08.54) and 400 IM (4:39.69). Senior Avery Pittman was also fifth in the 500 and freshman Estee Dilli placed third in the 400 IM (4:45.99).

Sophomore Claudia Etherington came in second in the 200 back (2:07.69), third in the 200 IM (2:13.81) and fourth in the 100 back (59.12). In the 100 back Kaitlyn Evarts was seventh (1:00.76) and freshman Ilsa Feierabend placed seventh in the 200 back (2:10.71).

Senior Caitlin Dowd led the Catamounts in the 200 breaststroke by finishing third in a time of 2:31.43, while Gardner was right behind her in fourth (2:31.87). Freshman Laura Stephens also placed fourth in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.20), while the team made up of Hannah Center, Evarts, Dowd and Pittman placed third in the 200 free relay with a time 1:41.31.

The Catamounts are back in action tomorrow when they travel to take part in the Harvard Invite starting at 2 p.m. Along with Vermont and Harvard, the field will include New Hampshire, Connecticut, Maine and Bryant.
