How Doc Counsilman Continues To Influence Gary Hall Sr. As Coach At The Race Club

JACKSONVILLE, Florida, September 17. GARY Hall Sr. has been working hard to expand the brand of The Race Club, growing it from a team of future Olympians to a place where swimmers of all ages can improve themselves.

In his video interview from the American Swim Coaches Association’s World Clinic, Hall talked about opening a new branch of The Race Club in California and how the new site will mirror the goals of the original location in southern Florida.

Hall has been working with pretty much his entire family (including, to a degree, his son Gary Jr.) in The Race Club, and he talks about his philosophy as a coach that includes many of teachings he learned from the legendary James “Doc” Counsilman. Hall was a swimmer at Indiana University during the Counsilman era, and he discusses the effect Counsilman had on many coaches through the years.
