Four finals to be held on night one include the men’s 400 free, women’s 400 IM, men’s 400 free relay and women’s 800 free relay. Trey Freeman of the United States is the top seed in the men’s 400 free, Japan’s Miku Kojima led qualifying of the women’s 400 IM and the Brazilian men and Canadian women are each seeded first in relay action.

Semi-finals will be contested in the women’s 50 breast, men’s 100 back, men’s 100 breast and women’s 100 back. Among those featured will be Italy’s Nicolo Martinenghi in the men’s 100 breast and American Regan Smith in the women’s 100 back, with both coming off meet records in prelims.

Russia’s Irinia Krivonogova scratched out of the women’s 400 IM final after qualifying eighth, giving way to Great Britain’s Rebecca Meder. That turned out to be the morning’s only withdrawal.
