Heartland Aquatics’ (Lincoln, NE) Clara Walstad will be keeping her talents in state as she has announced her verbal commitment to the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

“It has been a dream of mine to swim in college and in the big ten, staying in the Midwest. The Cornhuskers impressed me with their amazing team culture, it is a hugely supportive group of girls and I already felt like a part of the team on my recruiting trip. Go Swim Red!”

Clara is a member of Heartland Aquatics’ National Team and Lincoln Southwest High School Silverhawks where she is the NSAA High School and Midwestern Swimming LSC 15-16yr record holder in the 100 backstroke. Clara has shown steady progress over the last three years in her primary events: 50FR, 100 FR, 100 BK and 100Fly.

Event Freshman Sophomore Junior
50 Freestyle 25.05 24.21 23.67
100 Freestyle 55.09 54.20 52.67
100 Backstroke 1:01.06 56.64 55.14
100 Butterfly 57.82 57.14 56.02

Walstad is a part of a solid group of incoming backstrokers, joining OZ’s OT Qualifier Autumn Haebig who recently made her verbal commitment to the Huskers. Clara, the current backstroke group and the rest of the incoming freshmen will be called upon to fill the shoes of departing senior backstroker and Olympic Trials qualifier Erin Oeltjen. Clara’s best times put her in the C final of the 100 back and just outside the C final in the 100 fly of the 2016 B1G Ten Championships. With a continuation of her progression she could find her way into scoring (Big Ten Conference Meet scores top 24) points for the Huskers in the 100 back, 100 fly, 50 free and with a 50 back of 25.78, could compete for a spot on both medley relays.
