Hawaii High School State Championships

OAHU, Hawaii, February 18. THE Hawaii High School State Championships took place February 11-12 at the Central Oahu Regional Park pool.

Girls Results
Jasmine Mau led the way for the victorious Punahou team with wins in the 200 IM and 100 fly, clocking respective times of 2:07.42 and 56.88. Teammate LillyBelle Deer took the 500 free (5:09.89), while Punahou won two relays. Mau, Brandi Halemano, Sara Kahanamoku-Snelling, and Naomi Ng finished first in the 200 medley relay (1:49.99), while Kahanamoku-Snelling, Zoe Namba, Mau, and Deer clocked 3:35.46 for first in the 400 free relay. Additionally, Punahou’s Kathryn Chinn took the one meter diving with 441.85 points.

Kapolei’s Madeline Jamora doubled with wins in the 50 free (23.72) and 100 back (58.09). Kealakehe’s Kiana Yamashiro won the 200 free (1:54.79), while Mid-Pacific Institute’s Summer Harrison won the 100 free (52.60). Waiakea’s Madisyn Uekawa rounded out the individual wins with a 100 breast victory (1:05.65). Finally, Iolani’s team of Caitlyn Whang, Sandy Chun, Melisa Kegans, and Kelcie Kimura won the 200 free relay (1:39.94).

Punahou cruised to a win with 62 points, while Iolani scored 43 to take second and Kealakehe 19 for third.

Boys Results
The Hawaii Preparatory Academy dominated the meet, winning three relays and three individual events. Logan Borowski took the 50 free (20.74), Kaikea Nakachi the 100 back (51.44), and Kyle Katase the 100 breast (59.60). The team of Nakachi, Katase, Borowski, and Ross Ryan won the 200 medley relay in a state record-time of 1:35.70, and the same foursome later won both the 200 free relay (1:26.47) and the 400 free relay (3:12.82).

Seabury Hall’s Renny Richmond and Iolani’s Kacy Johnson took two individual victories each. Richmond won the 200 free in 1:41.45 before setting a state record of 48.04 in the 100 fly. Johnson, meanwhile, took the 200 IM (1:52.04) and 500 free (4:32.56). Punahou’s Robert Kiessling won the 100 free (48.16), while teammate Spencer Madanay finished first in one meter diving with 486.10 points.

The Hawaii Preparatory Academy won the meet with 57 points, while Punahou took second with 36 and Iolani and Kamehameha Schools Kapalama each scored 27 to tie for third.
