Guo Jingjing Returns to Competition at FINA Diving Grand Prix

LAUSANNE, Switzerland, May 11. FOR her first competition since the success at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, Chinese star Guo Jingjing won a gold medal in the fifth meet of the 2009 FINA Diving Grand Prix, held in Fort Lauderdale (USA) from May 7-10. Guo, the best female diver of all time – four Olympic gold and two silver medals – triumphed in Florida in the women's 3m springboard synchro, pairing with her compatriot Wu Minxia. It was the only victory for China in this meet.

Otherwise, US and Canadian divers were in evidence in Ft-Lauderdale, getting four and two titles respectively. The eighth gold medal of the meet (in the men's 10m platform) went to British sensation Tom Daley, who won in 554.90, ahead of Germany's Sascha Klein and China's Luxin Zhou, also great specialists in this event.

The last meet of the 2009 Grand Prix will take place in Madrid (ESP), from May 29-31.
