Greenwich High Dominates Connecticut Girls High School State Meet

NEW HAVEN, Connecticut, December 1. GREENWICH High dominated the Connecticut High School Girls State Championships with 644.5 points at the meet held on Nov. 18 on the campus of Yale University.

Cheshire High finished second with 436.5 points, while Darien High placed third with 395 points. New Canaan High took fourth with 326 points, while Norwalk/McMahon High and Hand-Madison High tied for fifth with 273 points.

Amity Regional High junior Margaux Farrell became the first sub-51 swimmer in state-meet history in the 100 freestyle by touching in 50.95 to break the 14-year-old state standard of 51.03 previously held by Cheshire's Emily Struck since 1992. Farrell also doubled up with a win in the 50 free in 23.52.

Two other swimmers turned in doubles as Suffield High sophomore Katie Gardocki won the 200 free (1:50.54) and the 500 free (4:54.44), while Greenwich High sophomore Laura Evans hit the wall first in the 200 IM (2:06.45) and the 100 back (57.31).

In diving, Southington High senior Kristy Dougan captured the one-meter crown with 374.75 points.
