Great Lakes Valley Conference Day 1 Recap

The opening day of the Great Lakes Valley Conference featured four events including the 1000 free, 200 IM, 50 free and 200 medley relay. Tonight

The evening’s heat sheet was as followed. Tonight’s finals place Drury on top for the women and Missouri S&T on top for men.

Day 1 results

Women’s 1000 Free

Drury took the top two spots, with freshman Allison Weber leading to pack with a time of 10:02.05. Weber dropped two seconds from her entry time. Junior Erica Dahlgren took second, with a time of 10:09.06. Quickly behind followed was Bellarmine’s Rachel Walker with a time of 10:10.81.

Just two seconds behind Walker was fourth place finisher Laura Boardman (10:12.86) followed by Melanie Arnold (10:16.07), Katelynn Thomas (10:18.36), Karianne Reinertsen (10:18.94), and Shannon Dague (10:22.41).

Men’s 1000 free

A trio of sophomores lead the event. Indy’s Adam Rosipal dropped over three seconds from his entry time, swimming in at 9:13.22. Closely behind his team mate was Cody Liske, taking silver with a time of 9:15.31. Missouri S&T’s Aaron Taske took the bronze with a time 9:15.89.

McKendree’s Throstur Bjarnason finished in fourth (9:19.02), followed by Tim Samuelsen (9:19.75), Patryk Golinski (9:21.43), Alexander Graham (9:22.96), and Rhys Taylor (9:29.82).

Women’s 200 IM

Drury topped the podium finishes with Junior Bailee Nunn leading the way with a time of 1:57.68, beating her entry time by almost five seconds. Second went to freshman Tori Sopp, with a time of 2:00.52. Fellow freshman Bec Cross finished with a time of 2:03.24.

Indy’s Sasha Shatskikh finished closed behind Cross for a fourth-place finish (2:04.34), followed by Darian Murray (2:04.40), Natalie Galluzzo (2:04.65), and Krystal Caylor (2:05.38). Amber Visser took eighth place with a time of 2:07.36.

Men’s 200 IM

Missouri S&T’s freshman Andy Huffman led the tight pack with a time of 1:48.57. Closely behind followed Indy’s Rodrigo Codo Berti with a time of 1:48.99. Bronze went to Drury’s Young Tae Seo, with a time of 1:49.08.

Indy’s Antonio Milin took a close fourth with a time of 1:49.35, followed by Andrew Rodriguez (1:49.44), Pavel Semochkin (1:49.55), Ethan Shih (1:49.79), and Parker Benn (1:50.15).

Women’s 50 Free

Drury’s Yasmin Preusse finished in first with a time of 23.18. Indy’s Kirsten Votava finished behind Preusse with a time of 23.25, followed by Drury’s Abby Lunzmann with a time of 23.46.

The fourth-place finisher was Indy’s Sefanie Haholiades with a time of 23.53, who out touched Lewis University’s Ebony McCray (23.54). Closely followed was Johanna Buys (23.79), Izzi Clark (23.82), and Laura Pareja (23.95).

Men’s 50 Free

McKendree University took their first gold with Xander Skinner touching in at 19.85. Missouri S&T’s Christopher Betts took silver with a time of 19.94. Third place went to Missouri S&T’s Matija Pucarevic with a time of 20.05.

Two tenths behind Pucarevic, Lewis’ Guillaume Bolivard took fourth with a time of 20.25. Closely followed was Morgan Meyer (20.32), Victor Antonon Rodriguez and Gabriel Jimenez tied for sixth with a time of 20.41, and Indy’s Guilherme Zavaneli finished eighth with a time of 20.47.

Women’s 200 Medley Relay

Wednesday evening capped off with a set of 200-medley relays. Drury dominated the event, finishing in a time of 1:40.96. Bellarmine took second in the heat, with a time of 1:42.91. The bronze went to Indy with a time of 1:43.82.

Truman State took the fourth-place finish with a time of 1:44.63. Followed closely behind was Lewis University (1:45.60), McKendree (1:45.86), William Jewell (1:46.30), and University of Missouri St. Louis (1:48.55).

Men’s 200 Medley Relay

With times finishing within three one hundredths of each other, Indy slid in first with a time of 1:28.22. Just one one-hundredth behind Indy followed Missouri S&T with a time of 1:28.23. Drury took the bronze with a close time of 1:28.25.

McKendree took fourth, with a time of 1:30.27, followed by Lewis (1:30.57), Missouri St. Louis (1:30.66), and Bellarmine (1:32.36). The final finish of the night was Truman State, with a time of 1:32.56.

Thursday morning’s session includes the following three events: the 400 IM, 100 fly, and 200 free. Prelims begin at 10 a.m. EST.
