Grand Canyon vs. Alaska-Fairbanks

FAIRBANKS, Alaska, November 5. THE Grand Canyon University women's swim team defeated the University of Alaska Fairbanks, 161-64, this evening in Fairbanks, Alaska.

The highlight of the night came in the 1650 free, where GCU's Faith Heinz (Corona, CA, Crusaders Christian Academy) took second with a time of 17:54.95, just behind the Nanooks' Pavlovskaya Mariya, who posted a 17:54.58. Both times were NCAA B Cut marks and represent the two fastest times in Division II this season.

Mychala Lynch (Phoenix, AZ, Xavier College Prep , Texas Christian University), a two-time RMAC Swimmer of the Week selection this season, and Catherine Polito (Cottonwood, AZ, Mingus Union), each posted three first-place swims. Lynch took home top honors in the 50 free (25.15), 200 fly (2:12.48) and 200 free relay (1:44.86). Polito took home first-place swims in the 100 free (55.03), 200 free (1:57.32) and 200 medley relay (1:54.09).

The ladies return to action on Saturday, Nov. 6, for a rematch with the Nanooks. The men's swimming team will also be in action on Saturday, when they will host the Air Force Academy at 1:30 p.m. at the Dottie Boreyko/Brophy Sports Campus.
