CHRISTIANSBURG – After the meet was postponed a day as a result of a blizzard in the area, the Grafton High School boys and Jamestown High School girls emerged with team trophies in class 4A on Friday night at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center at the Virginia High School State Swimming and Diving Championships.

The Grafton boys recorded 265 points to beat Jamestown (235 points) and King George (176 points), and the Jamestown girls racked up 347 points to easily take down Tabb (205 points) and Heritage (195 points).

Grafton’s Jonathan Spires played a big role in his team’s chase for the title with two individual state championships. Spires got to the wall first in the 200 free (1:41.84) and 100 free (45.75) to pick up valuable team points.

Woodgrove’s Keely Hemminger was a double event winner on the girls’ side as she tracked down titles in the 200 free (1:54.76) and 500 free (5:06.45). Annie Boone added a pair of wins for Eastern View with top times in the 200 IM (2:04.40) and 100 back (54.44).
