German Backstroker Jan-Philip Glania headed to California

GERMANY, November 27. JUST a day after it was announced that Theresa Michalak is headed to the USA, the next German is about to pack his bags to head stateside. Backstroker and Olympian Jan-Philip Glania is going to head to Southern California to train with Dave Salo for six months, starting in February.

After staying behind expectations at the London Olympics and enduring several injuries in 2013, Glania wants to improve in light of European Championships in Berlin next summer and he thinks working with Salo is just the way to do it. “They are swimming on a completely different level.” Glania told a local newspaper, speaking of the team in California.

To be able to train with Salo, fellow German Dimitri Colupaev and top athletes like Jessica Hardy, Haley Anderson and Yulia Efimova, 25-year-old Glania is also taking a six-month break from his studies in dental medicine.
