Georgia Tech vs. Davidson

DAVIDSON, North Carolina, January 14. THE Davidson Wildcats won seven individual titles, including a sweep of the 50 freestyles and 400 individual medleys, but the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets came away with a pair of team victories in dual meet competition Friday night at Cannon Natatorium.

The Jackets defeated the Wildcat men, 143.5-87.5, and the Davidson women, 133.5-106.5.

Senior Lindsey Martin won the 50 free with a time of 24.19, and sophomore Wills Cooper took a share of the title, tying Tech's Ben Shepperd at the wall with a time of 21.94. Martin split an individual title herself in the 100 free, touching the wall in 51.65 and at the same time as Tech's Lexi Weber.

Martin was the lone Wildcat to win a pair of titles, but Davidson also swept the 400 IM, as senior Anna Stringfield (4:32.64) and sophomore Drew Onken (4:03.19) picked up wins for Davidson.

Sophomore Kelsi Hobbs and senior Ineke Stegger were also individual winners for the ‘Cats. Hobbs swam a winning time of 2:10.71 in the 200 fly, and Stegger touched in 2:28.20 to win the 200 breast.

The Wildcats have two remaining meets on their regular-season schedule, both at Cannon Natatorium, before the 2011 CCSA Championships get underway in Athens, Ga., Feb. 17. The Davidson men will swim against CCSA-foe Howard Saturday, Jan. 22, while the women host CCSA members Campbell, Liberty, N.C. A&T and Radford in addition to the Bison.
