Georgia Tech Divers Star in ACC Performers of the Week

Georgia Tech divers Ruben Lechuga and Anna Bradescu were named the men’s and co-women’s divers of the week Tuesday in the first ACC Performers of the Week of the season.

Bradescu shared the honor with Izzi Mroz of Virginia Tech. Mroz’s fellow Hokie Youssef Ramadan is the men’s swimmer of the week, joined by North Carolina’s Grace Countie.

Ramadan led Virginia Tech to a win over Georgia Washington. He won the men’s 50 free in a time of 19.74 seconds and the 100 fly in 46.43. He also swam 43.37 off the front of a Hokies 400 free relay.

Countie picked up four wins to start her senior season, as the Tar Heels topped Queens University. She won the 50 free in 22.24 seconds and the 100 fly in 53.86, the first time she’s swum that event in a college meet. Countie also swam legs on winning 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays.

Lechuga started the season with a bang, setting school records in both springboard events as the Yellow Jackets topped Emory. His score of 402.60 on 1-meter dashed a record set in 2012. On 3-meter, the native of Mexico tallied 439.58, topping a record that had stood since 2013.

Bradescu was similarly outstanding against Emory. She won both events, the England native scoring 298.88 to win the 1-meter event and 292.58 to capture 3-meter gold.

Mroz swept diving events in a tri-meet with George Washington and Ohio University. Her score of 291.70 was enough to win on 1-meter. She tallied 317.10 to claim honors on 3-meter.
