Georgia Last Chance: Day One

ATHENS, Georgia, February 27. IN the first day of the Bulldog Invitational last chance meet at Gabrielsen Natatorium, several Georgia swimmers improved their provisional qualifying times, and Matt Bartlett set a school record in the 100 backstroke.

For the Georgia Lady Bulldogs, Abbie Fish improved her provisional qualifying time in the 500 freestyle (4:52.09). Erica Malagon finished with a 1:46.16 in the 200 freestyle, improving her former B-cut time. Megan Romano, also improving, touched in 1:45.66 in the 200 freestyle, a scoring swim in NCAA championships. In the 100 freestyle, Kelly McNichols had a 50.66, improving her previous provisional qualifying times.

On the men's side, Bartlett set a school record in the 100 backstroke with a time of 47.19, a provisional qualifying time. Bill Cregar improved his 500 freestyle B-cut time to 4:27.48 and finished with a 55.26 in the 100 breaststroke, a high provisional qualifying time.

"This was a good day," Georgia head coach Jack Bauerle said. "Some swims weren't qualifying swims, but were still pretty good. I'm happy with the guys and the ladies."

The Bulldog Invitational will conclude on Sunday with prelims beginning at 10 a.m. and finals set for 4 p.m.
