Georgia Diving Invite: Day Two

ATHENS, Georgia, January 5. GEORGIA's Hannah Moore took top honors in the Georgia Diving Invitational and Shootout on Monday at Gabrielsen Natatorium.

Moore, a junior from Moultrie, won the women's 3-meter springboard title with a score of 306.65. She was the only competitor with 300 points or more as Monica Dodson of Florida came in second with 296.50.

"Two years ago at this meet, Hannah won the 3-meter and went on to have a solid championship portion of the season," Georgia diving coach Dan Laak said. "Maybe the same thing can happen for her again this year. I am really pleased with where she is right now, with still about a month to go before the SECs. I really think she is one of the best divers in the conference, and winning this event against divers from many of the SEC schools should give her plenty of confidence."

In the prelims, Moore snared the fourth spot with 302.70 points, while teammates Hannah McElhannon (202.30), Lexie Bryant (196.05) and Landon Watters (188.00) were 32nd, 37th and 40th, respectively.

In the men's 1-meter springboard competition, Georgia's Owen Blank came in fifth with 313.40 points and Tim Barrett finished 12th with 251.80. SMU's Matt Culbertson won the event with a score of 342.20.

"I was real happy with the guys today," Laak said. "Tim and Owen did a great job in both the prelims and the finals."

In the prelims, Blank was fifth with 307.20 points, Barrett was 12th with 277.70 and teammate Alex Watson was 28th with 232.05.

The Georgia Diving Invitational and Shootout will conclude on Tuesday with platform diving at 11 a.m. The Georgia and SMU women's swimming teams will compete at Gabrielsen Natatorium starting at noon. There is no charge for admission.
