GCY’s NC 3A State Champ Virginia Gilliland Verbally Commits to Davidson College

NEW COMMIT: Greensboro Community YMCA’s Virginia Gilliland of Greensboro, North Carolina, has verbally committed to Davidson College for swimming, Class of 2022!

The Western Guilford High School Senior still has a few months left to go in one of the most storied careers of GCY swimming. She did not make a JO cut until the age of 12, and then just one, but through her work ethic and commitment to the sport, she is now a North Carolina High School State Champion, made the final championship heat at her first USA Swimming Junior National Championship, is a 10-time YMCA National qualifier and a 3-time YMCA All-American. This past summer, she was selected amongst her peers for the prestigious YMCA National Leadership Development Camp.

In the 200 medley relay, she owns the fastest breaststroke split in GCY history with a 29.24, from this December at Capital Classic. She also owns the team record in that distance as well, and has traded the 100 breaststroke record multiple times with her teammates (Alaina and McKenzie).

Virginia is a breaststroker primarily, but very versatile in all events, here’s a breakdown of her best times:
