Gage Hamill, a butterfly and freestyle specialist from Springfield High School and Springfield YMCA, will be an Indiana Hoosier next fall, competing on head coach Ray Looze’s men’s team that finished ninth at the NCAA Championships last year.

“I am both thankful and honored for the opportunity to swim for such an outstanding program. The IU coaching staff and team culture are very welcome and inspire greatness in their athletes, and I can’t wait to be a Hoosier! The Kelley School of Business is also a fantastic place to continue my education.”

Hamill has a lifetime best time of 1:51.18 in the 200 fly, which placed him in the consolation finals at YMCA Nationals a year ago and is his only Junior Nationals cut. Hamill would have been about a second and a half away from scoring in the event at last year’s Big-10 Championships. Other top times include his 51.07 in the 100 fly, 1:41.24 in the 200 free, 46.99 in the 100 free, 4:07.10 in the 400 IM and 1:55.93 in the 200 IM.

Interesting, Hamill will join his two older siblings at Big-10 schools. He has an older sister at Purdue and an older brother at Illinois, but neither are swimmers.
