Futures Champion Nikki Venema Announces Commitment to Princeton
NEW COMMIT: Virginia Beach, Va. sprint freestyler Nikki Venema has announced her commitment to Princeton University and will join the Tigers this fall.
Venema swims year-round with Tide Swimming and owns a trio of Summer Juniors standards. She was a five-time finalist at the TYR Pro Swim Series in Knoxville earlier this month after recording four lifetime bests with a 17th-place finish in the 50 free at Juniors East. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American notched 100% personal bests at Richmond Futures and won the 100m free this past summer and earned gold in the 50 free at ISCA Junior Nationals in March. Also competing for Floyd E. Kellam High School, Venema finished third in the 50 free during her junior season at the Virginia 6A State Championships.
She told Swimming World:
“I am excited to announce my admission into Princeton University to further my academic and swimming career! Thank you to my family, friends, and coaches for always pushing me to my full potential. Go Tigers!”
Her best times include:
- 50 free – 22.84
- 100 free – 50.39
- 200 free – 1:49.97
- 200 IM – 2:04.78
- 100 back – 57.85
- 100 fly – 55.06
Venema will make an immediate impact when she suits up for Princeton as a member of the class of 2023. She would’ve scored in the A-final of the 50 free as well as the B-final of the 100 free and 200 free at the 2018 Ivy League Championships where the Tigers finished third overall in the team standings.
