Victor Swim Club’s Alyssa Helak has given her verbal commitment to Louisiana State University. Helak is a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American who specializes in backstroke.

The Summer Juniors qualifier in the 200 backstroke won the event at Maryland Futures this summer and helped the Victor Swim Club women to a third place finish.

Her best times are:

  • 50 Back 26.24
  • 100 Back 56.37
  • 200 Back 1:59.44
  • 200 Free 1:49.93
  • 500 Free 4:53.41
  • 1650 Free 16:50.70

Helak shared,

“I chose LSU because the team and coaches made me feel like I was at home. I’m so excited to further my academic and swimming career at such an outstanding school. Geaux Tigers.”

Victor Swim Club Head Coach Michael Murray shared, “We look forward to watching her continue to improve and swim for The Tigers!”

LSU finished seventh in the SEC last year. While Helak is still a bit outside scoring range, if she can replicate the success she had in long course this summer, she could head to Baton Rouge in good shape next fall. Last year Daniel Stirrat (1:55.93) led the team’s backstroke group. She graduated in May, though. Tennyson Henry (2:02.31) will be last year’s only returning 200 backstroker in the 2017-2018 season.

Helak will join Raleigh Bentz in the Class of 2021.
