Jason Coombs Shines As Florida State Falls to Auburn, Wisconsin

Florida State travelled to the James E. Martin Aquatics Center on Friday to compete against Auburn and Wisconsin in their last meet before the ACC Championships.

The Seminoles fell to the No. 7 Auburn men 223-76, and the No. 17 Wisconsin men beat FSU 172-124. On the women’s side, the Seminoles fell to No. 11 Auburn 234-65 and to No. 17 Wisconsin 214-85.

To begin the meet, the men’s 200 medley relay team of Noah Hensley, Jason Coombs, Cole Hensley, and Jason McCormick finished third (1:28.54). N. Hensley later went on to take third in the men’s 100 back (48.80), and Emir Muratovic finished third in the men’s 200 free (1:39.80).

Jason Coombs was the only individual event winner for the Seminoles, taking first in the men’s 200 breast (1:59.41). He also placed second in the 100 breast (53.77).

Josie Cuda finished sixth in both the women’s 200 free (1:50.07) and 500 free (4:58.07). The Seminoles went 3-6 in the men’s 50 free, led by Jason McCormick (20.21).

Bianca Spinazzola registered a fourth place finish in the women’s 100 back (56.16), and Alexi Smith took fourth in the women’s 50 free (23.27). Meg Brown finished fifth in the women’s 200 fly (2:02.24) and sixth in the 200 back (2:03.58).

Dylan Grisell dove to third in the men’s 1m (347.50) and fourth in the 3m (325.85). Cassidy Gebhart took third in the women’s 3m (301.40), and Blair Mulka took second in the women’s 1m (271.30).

The relay team of Lydia Ware, Brenna Ruth, Leila Johnston, and Cuda placed third in the women’s 400 freestyle relay (3:24.40).

“We had some great swims today,” Seminole head coach Frank Bradley said in a Florida State press release. “The good news is that we fought hard up until the very end and we had a ton of energy today. Everyone was behind each other. Auburn and Wisconsin are great programs and we’ll see a lot more of them at NCAA’s.”

The Seminoles will be back in action for the ACC Championships in Greensboro.
