French Grand Prix, Bordeaux: Camelia Potec Posts Swift Time in Women’s 400 Free

BORDEAUX, France, February 8. A day after topping the women's 1500 free with a stellar time, Camelia Potec turned in the world's best time this year in the women's 400 free at the French Grand Prix held in long course meters in Bordeaux.

Fabien Gilot opened the final session with a triumphant time of 22.39 in the men's 50 free. Elizabeth Longhill followed with a meet-record time of 29.99 to win the women's 50 back.

Following a preliminary meet-record time of 28.98 from Kristopher Gilchrist in the men's 50 breast, James Gibson returned fire in finals with a winning time of 28.67. Giacomo Perez Dortona (28.78) and Gilchrist (28.79) completed the top three.

Potec kept on going with a strong meet as she charted the top time in the world in the young year with a 4:07.81 in the women's 400 free, while Michael Jamieson clinched the men's 200 IM crown with a 2:03.41.

In the 100 fly events, Magali Rousseau added a meet-record time of 1:00.81 for the women's title, while William Meynard stopped the clock in 54.34 for the men's crown.

Cloe Credeville dominated the women's 200 back with a meet-record time of 2:13.94, Ireland's Tara Dunne was the closest competitor with a second-place 2:19.45. Meanwhile, Ben Stasiulis clocked a 54.97 to set the meet record in the men's 100 back.

Alena Alekseeva claimed a close victory over Andrea Baudry, 1:10.01 to 1:10.51, in the women's 100 breast, while Gilchrist made up for a third-place finish in the 50 breast when he stopped the clock in a meet-record time of 2:12.37 in the men's 200 breast. Henrique Barbosa touched just behind in 2:12.99.

Gabriella Fagundez earned the women's 100 free title with a time of 56.13, while Gilot closed the show with a meet-record time of 1:49.63 in the men's 200 free.
