Franklin & Marshall vs. Johns Hopkins

BALTIMORE, Maryland, November 1. JOHNS Hopkins swims past Franklin & Marshall 148-108 on Saturday afternoon in the Blue Jays first dual meet against a Division III team this season. JHU is now 1-2 overall while the Diplomats are 0-1. Highlighting the meet was freshman Margaret Spach's (Laguna Niguel, CA/Aliso Niguel) swim in the 400 IM, the 10th fastest in JHU history.

The Blue Jays opened up with a win in the 200 Medley Relay in a time of 1:49.56, more than five seconds faster than the Diplomats team that took second. Swimming the relay for JHU was freshman Lindsey Kent (West Bend, WI/Homestead), junior Caitlin Dennis (Moorestown, NJ/Merion Mercy Academy), senior Sarah Andryauskas (Lexington, MA/Lexington) and freshman Elizabeth Rogers (North Palm Beach, FL/Suncoast).

Spach then won the 400 IM in a time of 4:39.02. She was followed by sophomore Mary Claire Kozlowski (Fairfax Station, VA/Lake Braddock Secondary) in second in 4:49.14. Freshman Khristine Ghemigian (Oak Park, CA/Oak Park) followed with a win in the 200 Free in 1:58.08. Senior Megan Zepp (Montgomery Village, MD/Stone Ridge) took second in 2:01.58.

Franklin & Marshall ended Hopkins run of first place finishes in the 50 Back as Brittany McCabe run for the Diplomats in 27.97. Kent followed in second (28.58) and sophomore Jill Barclay (Andover, MA/North Andover) took third (29.63). Freshman Annie Tsay (Sacramento, CA/Mira Loma) won the 50 Breast in 31.47, followed by sophomore Charlotte Floria (North Potomac, MD/Quince Orchard) in second (33.22).

In the 100 Fly, Andryauskas and sophomore Meagan Heslin (Wyckoff, NJ/Northern Highlands Regional) went one-two for the Blue Jays. Senior Jackie Rooney (Ft. Lauderdale, FL/The Culver Academies) and sophomore Elizabeth Dowdle (Tampa, FL/Academy of the Holy Names) followed that with a one-two finish in the 50 Free. Freshman Shelby Stewart (Carmichael, CA/Rio Americano) picked up a win in the 100 Free in 55.21. McCabe won her second event of the day for Franklin & Marshall, winning the 100 Back in 1:00.23. Spach finished in second for JHU (1:00.39) with junior Robin Schaffer (Dublin, OH/Columbus School for Girls) in third (1:03.67).

Hopkins then swept the top three spots in the 100 Breast with Dennis winning in 1:08.23. Senior Elissa Stautner (Conroe, TX/Academy of Science and Technology) then won the 500 Free in 5:18.01. Hopkins swam exhibitions for the remainder of the meet.
