Former Stanford Swimmer Brock Turner Appealing Rape Conviction

Brock Turner, a former Stanford swimmer convicted of sexually assaulting an unconscious woman outside a campus fraternity party, is appealing his conviction.

Lawyers for Turner filed an appeal Friday, several news outlets, including The Associated Press reported. They argued the Ohio native’s initial trial was “a detailed and lengthy set of lies,” according to The Associated Press.

The attorneys say the goal is a new trial will help overturn Turner’s mandatory lifetime requirement to register as a sex offender and the guilty verdict.

The original judge was Aaron Persky, who sentenced Turner to six months in jail. The sentence, deemed as lenient by many, brought the case into the national spotlight.

Turner was convicted of three felony counts of sexual assault.

He got no prison time and he wants a retrial?!? Let him! Maybe he’ll get an appropriate sentence – like 20-to-life!

It is unbelievable that someone convicted of a crime would appeal? They all do. So do a bunch who have pled guilty. Hearing appeals from convicted criminals is about half of what any intermediate appellate court does. Which is generally viewed as a good thing, but perhaps you would prefer the “justice” systems run by totalitarian governments?
