The University of Florida has received a verbal commitment for the class of 2022 from Kieran Smith, one of the class’ top IMers and all around versatile swimmers.

Smith told Swimming World,

“I chose the University of Florida because it’s the perfect fit for me. They have an excellent undergraduate program in Kinesiology, which is exactly what I’m looking for. On the swimming side, Coach Troy and Coach Nesty do an excellent job of helping middle distance swimmers and IMers like myself thrive. I’m extremely excited to join the team in the Fall of 2018!”

Smith swims for Ridgefield Aquatic Club in Connecticut. Some of his best SCY times are:

  • 200 IM 1:46.41
  • 400 IM 3:46.07
  • 100 Back 49.11
  • 200 Back 1:45.52
  • 200 Breast 2:01.36

The Ridgefield High School student holds the state record in the 500 freestyle.

At the 2017 SEC Championships Smith would have been a 200 IM C finalist. The Gators had five swimmers score in that event, including three sophomores who Smith will have the opportunity to train with in his first year. In the 400 IM he would have pulled in big points for Florida, touching eighth overall. Sophomore Alex Lebed was eighth in 3:45.06. With still over a year to go until he makes the move to Gainsville, Smith should find a great training partner in Lebed.
