FORT MYERS, Florida, January 28. THE FGCU women’s swimming & diving team finished the dual meet season in style by defeating FIU, 198-99, on Senior Day at the FGCU Aquatics Center on Saturday. The Eagles improve to 11-2 and have won four straight dual meets to finish the regular season.

“I am happy that the seniors had a great send off today,” said head coach Neal Studd. “We have a great group of seniors that we will miss dearly and it was a great day for all of them and their families.”

FGCU began the meet with a first-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:45.26. The team of freshman Emma Svensson (Uppsala, Sweden/Celsiusskolan), junior Danielle Beaubrun (Vieux Fort, St. Lucia/The Bolles School), junior Shannon Blizzard (Jacksonville, Fla./Stanton College Prep) and sophomore Christina Tanninen (Burlington, Ontario/Shorecrest Prep) raced ahead of the pack by four seconds.

The senior relay team of Teri Lytle (Melbourne, Fla./Melbourne Central Catholic), Victoria Cadge (Long Melford, Suffolk, United Kingdom/Kelly College), Danielle Butler (Orangeburg, N.Y./Tappan Zee HS/St. Bonaventure) and Leah Daniel (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Osceola) came in second in the 200 medley relay at 1:49.31.

In the 1000 freestyle, sophomore Jessie Porter (Chorleywood, Hertforshire, United Kingdom/Royal Masonic) finished first with a time of 10:24.24, followed by classmate Lindsey Meeder (Boynton Beach, Fla./Park Vista HS) at 10:25.09 and junior Kristen Potter (Rockledge, Fla./Rockledge HS) gave FGCU the clean sweep with a third-place finish at 10:32.77.

A pair of seniors finished first and second in the 200 freestyle when Cadge raced in at 1:52.20, while Daniel touched in at 1:53.28.

In the 100 back, Svensson picked up a first-place finish with a time of 57.13, while teammate Karen Vilorio (Tegucigalpa, Honduras/Elvel School) came in third at 59.96.

Beaubrun earned a victory in the 100 breast with a time of 1:04.64 followed by classmate Regina Rodriguez (Mexico City, Mexico/The Bolles School) in second at 1:08.15.

FGCU picked up a clean sweep in the 200 fly as Cianci placed first with a time of 2:06.15 followed by classmate Butler touching in at 2:06.99. Freshman Kathryn Brewer (Jacksonville, Fla./Creekside HS) came in third at 2:08.33.

In the 50 free, Tanninen came in first with a time of 24.55 followed by Blizzard in second-place at 24.99.

In the 1-meter diving competition, junior Maegan Butler (Orangeburg, N.Y./Tappan Zee HS/FAU) placed second with a score of 281.17, while freshman Taylor Malewicki (Jacksonville, Fla./Bishop Kenny HS) came in third at 279.20.

Svensson came away with her second individual win of the day in the 100 freestyle with a time of 53.17 followed by Tanninen in second at 53.76.

In the 200 breast, Beaubrun picked up her second victory with a time of 2:23.51, while Rodriguez touched in third at 2:25.42.

Meeder earned a first-place finish in the 500 free with a time of 5:02.54 followed by Daniel in second at 5:07.10.

Junior Eva Lehtonen (Rochester, Hills, Mich./Rochester Adams/Florida) placed first in the 100 fly with a time of 57.54 followed by Cianci in second at 57.63. Butler gave the Eagles another clean sweep with a third-place finish at 57.65.

In the final diving event of the day, Butler finished second in the 1-meter dive with a score of 261.38 and sophomore Alex Valder (Tampa, Fla./Sickles HS) in third at 253.58.

The Eagles will have almost a month to prepare to defend their title at the CCSA championship on Feb. 16-18 in Athens, Ga. and FGCU is looking for its fourth straight title.
