Florida Gold Coast Senior Championships Feature Another Strong Night

PLANTATION, Florida, February 18. JUST 24 hours after T2's Elizabeth Pelton just missed her American record in the women's 200-yard back, the women put up a strong evening of swimming at the FGC Senior Championships during night two.

Pelton won the 200 free in 1:43.42 with new T2 teammate Katie Hoff taking second in 1:43.91. Erika Erndl gave T2 a top-three sweep with a 1:45.25. Pelton moved to 16th all time in the event. Hoff came within a second of her 10th-ranked lifetime best of 1:43.10.

South Florida's Alia Atkinson, an NCAA titlist in the event, cruised in the women's 200-yard breaststroke with a triumphant time of 2:09.06. Her NCAA winning time of 2:06.99 from 2009 ranks her fifth all time, however, the 2:09.06 is a significant in-season time for Atkinson.

Erndl returned in the women's 100-yard fly with a 53.46 for the win. T2's Anne-Marie Botek placed second in 53.56, while Atkinson doubled with a third-place 53.76. Hoff wound up fourth in 55.09. T2's Karie Haglund closed down the night for the women with a swift 4:19.04 in the women's 400 IM.
