Flash! Four World Records Set Betweeen Two Women at Russian National Championships

PHOENIX, Arizona, April 28. TWO women were responsible for four world records today and an additional European record Monday at the Russian national championships.

Yulyia Efimova started the world record party off today with a world record in the 50 breaststroke, completing the distance in 30.23 in the semifinals and a 30.05 in the finals. Both times were under the record of 30.31 held by Australia's Jade Edminstone.

Anastasia Zueva was also responsible for two world records today, hers coming in the 50 backstroke. Zueva, who finished fifth in the 100 back at the 2008 Olympics, put down a 27.48 in the semifinals, then a 27.47 in the final. The world record had stood at 27.87, shared by China's Zhao Jing and Australia's Sophie Edington.

Efimova, fourth in the 100 breast in Beijing, also added a European record in the 100 breast to her tally Monday, swimming a 1:05.80. Her swim makes her the second-fastest performer in the event after world-record holder Leisel Jones.
