Five-Star Charlie Rimkus Makes College Commitment

MISSION VIEJO, California, October 24. SWIMMING World five-star recruit Charlie Rimkus, who swims for Bill Rose at Mission Viejo and preps at Arnold O. Beckman High, is on his way to one of the more prestigious academic institutions in the land.

Northwestern's Bob Groseth must be doing cartwheels after beating out Princeton and Southern California for the services of Rimkus. Rimkus has U.S. Olympic Trials cuts in the 400-meter free (3:59.78), 1500-meter free (15:41.73), 200-meter IM (2:05.31) and 400-meter IM (4:25.29). He also already has NCAA Division I B cuts in the 500-yard free (4:22.84) and 1650-yard free (15:18.26). Rimkus is the first public pledge for the Northwestern men's team.

"In my college search, I was looking for a school that had a great balance between academics and swimming," Rimkus told Swimming World. "I feel that Northwestern is the best fit candidate, and is a place where I will reach my potential in collegiate swimming. The enthusiasm of the team and coaches creates a great atmosphere where success is inevitable."
