First Night of Swimming Concludes at Palo Alto Speedo Sectional

PALO ALTO, Texas, July 25. THE first night of long course meter swimming came to a close at the Palo Alto Speedo Sectional with titles in the 100 free, 800 free, 200 back and 100 breast being decided.

Texas Gold opened the meet with a win when Sherrill Thompson, 16, stopped the clock in 57.26 in the women's 100 free. She beat Lily Moldenhauer, 15, of the Alamo Area Association, who took second in 57.97. Meanwhile, Jimmy Feigen, 17, of Wave touched out Joshua Bagby of Katy Aquatics, 51.53 to 51.90, to win the men's 100 free.

In the 100 breaststroke events, Kannon Betzen of the Dallas Mustangs won the women's race in 1:12.82, while Roy Chambers of Tiger Aquatics won a close battle with Jamie Stults of Metroplex Aquatics, 1:06.37 to 1:06.50, for the men's crown.

Rebecca Orr of Longhorn Aquatics easily won the women's 200 back in 2:18.80, while Kevin Braud of Tiger Aquatics also had a comfortable margin of victory with a time of 2:07.08 in the men's 200 back.

Erin Sosdian, 15, of The Woodlands cruised to a win in the women's 800 free in 9:06.03, while Caleb Veazey, 16, of the Dallas Mustangs picked up the men's 800 free crown with an 8:23.96 readout.
