DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, December 19. USA's Ryan Lochte grabbed a second gold medal this evening en route to an IM sweep at the FINA World Short Course Championships.

Lochte posted a scintillating time of 50.86 to win the 100 IM. On top of winning the 200 back as well tonight, he'd already took home both the 200 and 400 IM gold medals in world-record fashion earlier this week. Lochte's time came up just short of his American record of 50.81 set during prelims, and left Peter Mankoc's world record time of 50.76 intact.

Germany's Markus Deibler posted the second-place swim with a 51.69 to improve his second-ranked season best of 52.08. That time also stood as the German record heading into this evening. Russia's Sergey Fesikov notched a third-place time of 51.81.

Trinidad's George Bovell III (51.97), Australia's Kenneth To (52.20), Japan's Takuro Fujii (52.36), Canada's Jake Tapp (52.97) and Brazil's Henrique Rodrigues (53.69) finished fourth through eighth. Fujii downed the Japanese record of 52.91 set by Hisayoshi Sato in 2008, while Tapp bested his Canadian record of 53.43 from earlier in the meet.
