FINA World Short Course Championships: Russia’s Stanislav Donets Snares 50 Back Crown With Meet Record

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, December 18. RUSSIA's Stanislav Donets turned in a meet record in the men's 50 back at the FINA World Short Course Championships.

Donets won the sprint backstroke event in 22.93, lowering his meet record of 23.02 set earlier in the meet. He came up short of his top-ranked season best of 22.74 set at the European Short Course Championships.

China's Sun Xiaolei and Spain's Aschwin Wildeboer Faber tied for second with matching 23.13s. Sun downed his Chinese record of 23.23 set earlier in the meet, while Faber just missed his 23.07 set last year.

France's Camille Lacourt (23.16), USA's Nick Thoman (23.28), Brazil's Guilherme Guido (23.39), France's Jeremy Stravius (23.53) and Australia's Ben Treffers (23.68) also made the finale. Lacourt downed the French record of 23.33 set by Ben Stasiulis twice, while Guido matched his Brazilian national record.
